On December 11th (the second Wednesday of the month), the annual Xmas Lunch will be held, as usual, in the YMCA Hawker Centre, Richmond Road, Kingston, commencing from midday. The YMCA have agreed to keep the cost down to £20 per head, the same as last year. This has meant some reductions in the overall meal content; no Starter Course, no crackers and hats and just the traditional Roast Turkey MainCourse.
There will be a glass of wine/soft drink on arrival and coffee/tea to finish.
You will be able to purchase tickets from Ken Batstone at 42 King’s Road, Walton on Thames, Surrey KT12 2RA or by e-mail at k_batstone@hotmail.com
Do come to this always enjoyable afternoon event.
There will be an email calling notice with a bit more detail later.
On the 11th September, Ian Whittle gave us a fascinating presentation on the Genesis of the Turbofan jet. The talk covered the earliest development of turbojet propulsion and include some details of developments in Germany and the USA. He flew the earliest British jets – the Gloster Meteor, the De Havilland Vampire and the Hawker Hunter.
